Welcome to the first edition of Ahpra and the National Boards' employer newsletter.

Supported by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, each edition will feature our latest news, and important information and resources relevant for all employers to keep you informed about practitioner standards, compliance requirements, and best practices for a safe and effective workplace.

Latest news

New Ahpra portal

We have a new Ahpra portal for practitioners and authorised representatives.

The portal includes new digital smart forms to make it easier and faster to apply for and renew registration.

We’ve also introduced multi-factor authentication for increased protection of personal data making it safe, secure and simple to renew and register online.

Nursing and midwifery registration renewal is different this year

Nurses and midwives will need to set themselves up in the new Ahpra portal.

We’re holding a series of webinars for employers and managers on Thursday 1 May, Friday 2 May, and Monday 5 May 2025.  Join us to ask questions and learn about supporting nurses and midwives this renewal period. 

We also have videos and tips to support you, and state and territory managers will be available for escalations.

Discrimination and racism will not be tolerated

We have released a joint statement regarding recent incidents, underlining that there is no place for discrimination, racism or intolerance in healthcare.

Research provides clues to boost health workforce retention

New Ahpra research published in the Australian Health Review identifies the factors driving practitioners’ choices to stay or leave the health workforce, across nine regulated health professions.

PIE: Practitioner Information Exchange

PIE is a subscription-based service that allows approved healthcare organisations to easily check the details and registration status of the health practitioners that they employ.

Customers can receive alerts about changes to a practitioner’s details or registration status via PIE, which is updated once every 24 hours.
