Patient protection strengthened by new MoU with Tasmanian government

25 Sep 2023

To support patient safety and improve the management of sexual misconduct by health practitioners, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) has entered into a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tasmanian government.

The partnership supports Ahpra’s Blueprint for reform and the Tasmanian Department of Health’s push to improve patient safety across its hospitals and health services.

With a focus on sharing information about alleged sexual misconduct or boundary violations by state employee health practitioners, the agreement is the first of its kind in Australia.

By mandating that information about all alleged boundary violations are shared as quickly as allowed by law, the MoU will help fast track any necessary action by the regulator or department to keep the public safe.
