Medical practitioner reprimanded after failing to comply with conditions on registration

A Tribunal has reprimanded a medical practitioner, imposed conditions on her registration and ordered her to pay Ahpra’s costs after she failed to comply with conditions on her registration which required her to attend for urine drug screening (UDS).

The Medical Board of Australia (the Board) referred Dr Sook Ng to the Western Australian State Administrative Tribunal (the tribunal) after she failed to attend UDS or arrange for leave, or extension of leave, from UDS, on multiple occasions between May 2018 and February 2019.

Orders were made, with the consent of the practitioner, that she had behaved in a way that constitutes professional misconduct.

On 27 May 2020, the tribunal:

• reprimanded Dr Ng
• imposed conditions on Dr Ng’s registration which:
  • limited her practice to 40.5 hours per week
  • limited her practice to Board approved locations
  • limited her to supervised practice, with a Board-approved registered practitioner, and
  • prohibited her access to benzodiazepines.

The tribunal also ordered Dr Ng contribute towards Ahpra’s legal costs, fixed to the amount of $4,000.
