AHPRA successfully prosecutes company for advertising offences

09 May 2019

A company has pleaded guilty to all ten charges related to advertising offences in a New South Wales local court today following charges laid by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Mr William Greenlees, the Sole Director of The Running Clinic (Australia) Pty Ltd (formerly trading as the Heel Clinic), pleaded guilty on behalf of the company for advertising offences against the National Law.

The charges were filed against the company on 6 November 2018. It was alleged that the advertising of The Running Clinic contained false, misleading and deceptive claims and statements in relation to podiatry services on several of its websites and Facebook account. It was further alleged that the advertising contained statements and claims that were likely to create an unreasonable expectation of beneficial treatment.

The matter has been adjourned for sentencing to 28 May 2019.

Anyone who has concern about a registered health practitioner is encouraged to report this to AHPRA so the concerns can be investigated, by calling 1300 419 495 or visiting the AHPRA website: www.ahpra.gov.au.
