Revised registration standards take effect today

Revised registration standards for nine registered health professions take effect from today.

National Boards regulating most Australian registered health practitioners have previously published the contents of the revised standards that commence today and supporting materials to help practitioners understand the new requirements.

The revised registration standards1 now in effect are:

Board Registration standard/s
Chiropractic Board
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Recency of practice
Dental Board
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Recency of practice
Medical Radiation Practice Board
  • Continuing professional development (CPD) 
Optometry Board
  • Recency of practice
Osteopathy Board
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Recency of practice
Pharmacy Board
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Recency of practice
  • Examinations for eligibility for general registration 
  • Supervised practice arrangements
Physiotherapy Board
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)
Podiatry Board
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)
Psychology Board
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)

These standards will apply to most applicants for initial registration, and applicants for renewal of registration from 1 October 2016. They do not apply to the current cycle of renewals.

The revised standards were approved by the Australian Health Workforce Ministerial Council on 27 August 2015.The standards were revised after a scheduled review, which included public consultation. National Boards have previously published consultation reports providing a summary of the consultation processes, rationale for any changes and proposed way forward, including areas where further work is planned.
