Call for applications for persons interested in being included on a list of approved persons for appointment to panels and/or the accreditation committee.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia (the Board) seeks nominations and expressions of interest from persons who are registered, or will be eligible for registration, interested in being included on either/or:

  • a list of approved persons for appointment to health panels and performance and professional standards hearings panels; and/or
  • accreditation committee

List of approved persons

Under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, as in force in each state and territory (National Law) a Board convenes health panels and performance and professional standards panels when required to hold hearings into specific health, performance or conduct matters for individual registered health professionals. Such panels consist of members chosen from a Board approved list of persons.

The Board is seeking registered practitioners with current and recent practice experience for the list of approved persons, who reside in all states and territories (except NSW*).

*Recruitment for panel members is in accordance with s183(2) of the National Law, to the extent practicable, will exclude individuals whose residence or principal place of practice is in a co-regulatory jurisdiction (i.e. NSW).

Accreditation committee

The Board is also seeking to expand the Accreditation Committee, which advises the Board and exercises accreditation functions under the National Law assigned the Board. The functions of the committee are to:

  1. develop accreditation standards
  2. accredit programs of study
  3. monitor approved programs of study and education providers to ensure they continue to meet the accreditation standards, and
  4. advise the board of issues in education and practice which may impact upon Aboriginal and Torres Islander health practice and the conduct of programs of study.

The Board is calling for applications from registered practitioners with current and recent experience, specializing in but not restricted to;

  • Education; preferably with experience working in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector and in delivering training in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice);
  • Accreditation expert, preferably within the health sector

The Board will also consider applicants who do not have the above experience. Applicants are being sought from registered practitioners who reside in all states and territories. 

All appointments are made by the Board under the National Law and your application will be assessed by a Selection Advisory Panel. All appointments are for up to three years, with eligibility for re-appointment, and are expected to commence in mid 2015.
